Antenatal (standard) courses

These courses are for 6 to 8 women and their partners or supporters. We also run courses in some places for women only. Some courses include women only sessions. Courses are usually in the evening or at weekends but daytime courses are run or can be run. In total there are about 16-20 hours with the teacher.

The NCT antenatal class addressed all my concerns in a straightforward, non-embarrassing way (to the relief of my husband!)

Our courses all vary slightly because each course is designed around the group of people who are on the course to meet their needs. Most courses run as a set of sessions with the same group attending each session.

All antenatal courses cover preparation for birth and parenthood. Most include a breastfeeding session with a qualified breastfeeding counsellor, and most include a reunion which takes place after all the babies are born. Standard and intensive courses are generally for parents expecting their first babies.

Parents will get to know others in a similar position and attendees often find the people they meet on these courses become an important support in the months and sometimes years after their babies are born.
